Well that was a long summer off, eh? Now if only I could take that kind of vacay from the day job!
Central Memorial Park is coming along, though it seems they didn’t quite make the “end of August” opening for the new Boxwood Restaurant (operated by the group that owns River Cafe) on the south edge of the park. Though it seems they’re significantly past their estimated date of completion (and knowing this Council’s penchant for spending money, probably well past their budget as well), various elements are definitely coming together.
These photos were taken back around, I think, the start of September. In addition to what’s seen here, the new buildings (including the Boxwood building) appear nearly complete, and the gorgeous plaques at the corners have been laid.
I work just a short walk from this park, and it’ll be great to have it as a nice place of respite in next summer’s sunlight. Unless, of course, it becomes just another park for Calgary’s downtown homeless.
I do hope, however, that some of the fencing will be down in time for my annual visit to the park’s cenotaph on November 11.

I think this is such a waste, the park was fine and pleasant until the trees were obliterated for the box house thing, were there was good grass now is concrete pavement in useless paths everywhere, occultish designs in-laid all over the park. Hooray for grey(not)
